Create a special caution alert for a youth

Youth placed in DCS facilities and group homes often have behavioral or mental health issues that require close monitoring by staff. Particularly, if the youth is suicidal or has other conditions that warrant monitoring, workers can create specific alerts for associated staff.

Follow these steps to create special caution alerts for a youth.

1. In the Home screen, click the Case tab. The Case Workload screen appears.

2. Click the case ID number link for the case you want to update. The Case Overview screen appears.

3. Click Special Caution Alert in the link menu. The Special Caution Alert List screen appears.

4. In the Youth Name field, select the youth who needs Needs (formerly referred to as Concerns) are behaviors and risks displayed by the child or family. This should include the reasons for DCS involvement with the family/child. an alert and click Add Special Caution Alert. The Special Caution Alert Details screen appears.  

5. In the Alert Category field, select the main category for this alert.

6. In the Alert Type field, select the specific type of alert.

7. Enter the start and end date for the alert duration.

8. In the Reason for Alert field, describe why the alert is needed or describe steps that staff should take for ensure safety for the youth and others.

9. Click Save. You are returned to the Special Caution Alert List screen.
   
   At the Start Date, this alert will appear on the Case Overview screen and the Person Overview screen for the youth profile.
