Children and youth in the legal custody of the Department have the opportunity to visit their families, siblings, other case participants and non-case participants unless there is a court order that limits visitation. Visitation plans document the activities and requirements to monitor the interaction between the child and plan participants.
Visitation may be supervised or unsupervised based on the court order and the individual circumstances of each case. The safety and well being of a child is the primary concern to determine if supervised or unsupervised visitation. The visitation should allow parents to demonstrate parenting skills necessary to ensure the safe return of the child to the home. Visitation should be conducted in the most natural setting possible, preferably the family’s home.
See Record a visitation plan for instructions to record a visitation plan in TFACTS.
A visitation plan may be linked to a permanency plan . See About permanency plans for more details on permanency plans.
