Create a new adoption case
Process: Record an adoption case
When the Department is given permanent custody of a child, you can create an adoption case for the child and begin recording the details of the adoption process. When you create an adoption case, the system removes the child from the original family case and copies certain information from the family case to the new adoption case. See About adoption cases for more information.
You can also select a child, normally a sibling, from another open case and add that child to the adoption case. The Department must have permanent custody of any child added to an adoption case. See Add a child to an existing adoption case.
Note |
|
Once you create an adoption case, you cannot reverse the action nor can you merge the case with another. |
Follow these steps to create a new adoption case.
From the Home screen, click the Case tab. The Case Workload screen appears.
Click the case number ID link for the original case in which the child is a member. The Case Overview screen appears.
Click Adoption in the link menu. The Child Members screen appears. The children listed on this screen are available for adoption and have a legal status of "Permanent Custody."
In the Child Members grid, select the check box for each child you want to add to the new adoption case.
In the Case Reference Person list, select a child name to be used as the adoption case name.
Click Create Adoption Case. The system displays a message explaining that the children you selected will be removed permanently from the original family case.
NOTE: When you create an adoption case, the child you add to the adoption case cannot be returned to the original family case. This action is not reversible.
Click OK to create the adoption case with the children you selected. The New Adoption Case Details screen appears.
The system assigns a new case number to the adoption case and assigns the case category of "Adoption" and a case status of "Open."
The children moved into the adoption case are deactivated as case members in the original case with the deactivation reason of "Moved to Adoption Case." The children in the adoption case retain their person IDs.
Click Work Assignment to assign the new adoption case to an adoption worker. The Assign Work Item screen appears.
After selecting the worker, you are returned to the Case Overview screen.
Click Next Task> below to continue.
The system performs these actions when the adoption case is created:
Any alerts associated with selected child will automatically move to adoption case.
Removal record, placement history, and legal status are copied over into adoption case and can be modified. These items will be view-only in original case.
If an open ICPC record exists, it will move over to adoption case.
If active case services are recorded for the child, those services move over to adoption case.
