About Other intakes

Other intakes are referrals made to the Department requesting services that do not allege child abuse or neglect. There are seven Other Intake Types.  One of those intake type is "All Other Intake" which includes intakes pertaining to Court Custody (Social Services and Juvenile Justice), Relative Care Program, Family Services.  Another intake type involves the Interstate Compact referrals such as ICAMA, ICPC, ICJ, ICJ Court Referral, ICJ Runaway.  The last intake type is the Out of state courtesy request intake. The Other intakes differ from CPS intakes in the following ways:

All Other Intakes

In the All Other Intake process, information about a youth is recorded when a new incident or referral occurs. For example, a youth is tried as an adult and gets placed at a YDC rather than an adult prison. The worker completes the initial intake documentation received from the court and referring parties, which could be law enforcement, courts, schools, parents, or other community members. The court liaison can also conduct initial interviews with concerned parties, arresting officer, complainant, parent, and youth, to gather background information about the youth.

During the intake you gather information about the youth and family and determine if the youth is in the system.

At the conclusion of the intake, you link the new intake to an existing case or create a new case.

Interstate Compact Intakes (ICPC, ICJ, ICAMA)

In the ICPC intake (Interstate Compact for Placement of Children)  ICPC/ICJ/ICAMA Administrators document a referral coming into Tennessee from another state or Compact Agency. After the ICPC information is complete, a case is created and assigned to a regional or county worker for completion of the requested services.

See Record an All Other Intake type   or Record an intake for ICPC/ICJ for the process to record intakes that do not involve child abuse or neglect.
